Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller will have six runners in Saturday’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile, the feature race on the opening weekend of ‘The Championships’ at Royal Randwick.
Waller will saddle up Boban, last year’s winner Sacred Falls, Weary, Royal Descent, My Kingdom Of Fife and Hawkspur in the $3 million feature.
Jockey Craig Newitt has stepped aside to allow Tommy Berry to ride Weary, currently a $14 chance on Betfair. Newitt will ride $55 shot My Kingdom Of Fife.
With It’s A Dundeel unlikely to accept, weights will rise 1.5kgs for the Doncaster, making Boban the new topweight on 58kgs.
Waller and jockey Glyn Schofield are now hoping for a dry track to give Boban ($10.50) a chance to produce his best.
Race favourite Messene ($3.85) will be ridden by Corey Brown, with James McDonald unable to get down to the 50kg limit to ride the Hawkes-trained galloper.
Messene will carry 51.5kgs if It’s A Dundeel withdraws as expected.
