Sydney jockey Tommy Berry piloted the John Moore trained Designs On Rome to victory in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), at Hong Kong’s Sha Tin racecourse on Sunday night.
Designs On Rome got the better of Military Attack by a neck in a driving finish, Berry lifting his mount to victory despite being forced to sustain a long run from the 600m.
Ironically, Berry won the QEII Stakes aboard the runner-up, Military Attack last year.
South African visitor Vercingetorix was a further two lengths away in third.
Berry only arrived in Hong Kong on Sunday morning, after riding at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Berry looked to the heavens after the winning post in acknowledgement of his late brother Nathan, who passed away earlier this month after a brief battle with Norse Syndrome.
