Sydney jockey Blake Shinn has scored the ride on leading Cox Plate fancy Fiorente.
Gai Waterhouse opted to give Shinn the ride for the $3.5 million Weight For Age classic, following Damien Oliver’s careless riding suspension incurred at Caulfield on Wednesday.
Despite missing the Cox Plate ride, Oliver will get the chance to partner Fiorente in the Melbourne Cup.
Shinn told Racing Network that he aggressively chased the ride on Waterhouse’s imported stayer.
“I texted her this afternoon (Thursday) and just basically put down a few points as to why I thought I’d be good for the horse,” said Shinn.
“Obviously it worked, she sent me one back saying I was on.
“Gai is a business women and she has got to make the right call, got to be professional in her approach and I wanted to make sure I had put my case forward in the best possible manner.”
