Robert Smerdon’s talented filly Lumosty will tackle the Listed Straight Six (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday, before heading to Brisbane to chase a Group 1 victory.
Smerdon is hopeful the 3-year-old will sneak into the field for the $2 million Stradbroke, but the trainer has mapped out an alternative path in case Lumosty fails to make the final cut.
If Lumosty misses a start in the Stradbroke, she’ll run in the Group 2 Dane Ripper (1400m) at Eagle Farm on the same day, before contesting the Group 1 Tatts Tiara on the Gold Coast on June 20.
“We’d love to run in the Stradbroke, but I’ve been told we are so far down the order of entry that we may miss out,” Smerdon told News Corp.
“If we sneak into the Stradbroke, well and good. If we don’t, we’ll wait a fortnight and have a crack then in the Tiara.”
Lumosty resumed with a devastating win over 1100m at Flemington earlier this month.
