Caulfield Guineas winner Long John is heading toward the lucrative Dubai World Cup meeting in March, following his impressive first-up victory at Meydan.
The Darley-owned colt dominated his 10 rivals in the Group 3 UAE Guineas (1600m) last week, and will now target the Group 2 UAE Derby on the Dubai World Cup card on March 29.
The son of Street Cry surged to the lead rounding the corner, and sprinted away to win by 4 and ¼ lengths.
Sandown Guineas winner Paximadia also contested the race, racing on the speed before fading to finish 9th of 11.
Long John and Paximadia are now a part of Shiek Mohammed’s Godolphin stables, where Charlie Appleby is the head trainer.
As southern bred hemisphere bred 3-year-olds, the pair had to lump 59kgs, 5 more than their northern hemisphere counterparts, adding merit to the performance of Long John.
