Guy Walter’s star mare Appearance has run her last race, after suffering a ligament injury in trackwork on Monday.

Walter has confirmed Appearance has damaged her near-fore fetlock and will be retired, just days out from the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill, where she was one of the favoured runners.

It’s a crushing blow for Walter, who had Appearance in career-best form this preparation.

The five year old won all three of her runs at weight-for-age this time in, the Expressway Stakes, Apollo Stakes, and Group 1 Canterbury Stakes.

Appearance race 19 times for nine wins, including seven at stakes level, and won $1,733,430 in prizemoney.
