Fiorente and It’s A Dundeel are set to go head-to-head in Saturday’s Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill.

The star gallopers were among Monday’s nominations for the weight-for-age contest, along with a host of other top line middle-distance gallopers, including Carlton House, Foreteller, Hawkspur and Silent Achiever.

Fiorente will have to make history to win on Saturday, with no horse having won the Melbourne Cup and Ranvet Stakes in the same season since the great Peter Pan in 1934-35.

It’s A Dundeel had his colours lowered by Boban first-up this preparation but boasts an unbeaten second up record, including a famous victory over the previously undefeated super mare Atlantic Jewel in last year’s Underwood Stakes.

Both Fiorente and It’s A Dundeel are heading towards the Group 1 $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 19.
